Guide to Growing Marigolds

Did you know there are over 50 species of marigolds? The most common species we plant in our gardens are Tagetes erecta ( African or Aztec marigold), Tagetes patula (French marigold), and Tagetes tenuifolia (Mexican or signet marigold). Pot marigold or Calendula officinalis is not a true marigold and can be dried for use in teas or infused oils or added fresh to food. 

Insect pollinated, marigolds are a wonderful companion plant to add to your garden whether as a border to repel pests, act as a  or in containers to add color. Marigolds are a great annual to add to your Minnesota Garden. Check out these resources from the University of Minnesota:
